Unravel Ask a question

Privacy Policy

What Unravel collects when you ask a question, who it is shared with, and how long it is kept.

Effective 28 October 2026 · Last updated 28 October 2026

The short version

Unravel has no accounts, no cookies, no ads and no analytics. To answer a question, the text you type is sent to an AI service. Your IP address is held briefly in memory to apply fair use limits. Nothing is sold or shared for marketing.

Who we are

Unravel is an independent documentation assistant for Zcash, run as an open project at github.com/meetaminx/unravel. In this policy, "Unravel", "we" and "us" mean the people who run that project. You can reach us through GitHub issues.

What we collect and why

WhatWhyHow long
The question you typeTo find matching passages and write an answer. It is sent to our answer service and to Groq (see below).Kept in our server's memory for up to 1 hour so a repeated question can be answered instantly, then discarded. Not written to a database.
Your IP addressTo apply fair use limits (a few questions per minute and a daily cap per address) and block abuse.Held in server memory for up to 24 hours, then dropped. Not stored on disk or linked to anything else.
Error detailsTo fix problems. When something fails we log the error type, such as "rate limited" or "service error".Kept in our hosting provider's logs for a short period. These entries do not include your question.
Your motion settingTo remember whether you turned animations off.Saved only in your own browser (local storage) until you clear it. We never receive it.

We do not ask for your name, email address, wallet address or any other personal details, and we do not use cookies. Please don't type personal or secret information, such as seed phrases, private keys or passwords, into the question box. Unravel never needs them.

Services that receive data

We use a small number of providers to run Unravel. Each one receives only what it needs:

  • Groq runs the AI model that writes answers. It receives your question and the passages we selected. Groq states that by default it does not keep the content of these requests, but it may log them for up to 30 days to fix errors or investigate abuse. See Groq's data policy.
  • Web search through Groq. When our sources don't cover a Zcash question, your question may be sent to Groq's built-in web search, which uses a search provider (Exa) to find public pages.
  • Vercel hosts the website and the answer service, and processes each request, including your IP address, to deliver it. See Vercel's privacy policy.
  • Google Fonts serves the typefaces on this site, so your browser connects to Google when the page loads. See Google's privacy policy.

If we ever switch AI providers (for example to Anthropic's Claude API), we will update this page. We do not sell, rent or share your information with anyone for advertising.

Security

All traffic to Unravel is encrypted with HTTPS. API keys for our providers are kept as private server settings and are never sent to your browser. No system is perfectly secure, so we keep as little information as possible, for as short a time as possible.

Your choices and rights

Because we don't keep accounts or a database of questions, there is usually nothing stored that we could look up, export or delete for you. You can clear the motion setting by clearing this site's data in your browser. If you have a question about your data, or want to exercise a right you have under the law where you live, contact us through GitHub issues and we will respond as best we can.

Children

Unravel is meant for developers and adults learning about Zcash. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If how Unravel handles data changes, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the project's GitHub repository.
